Jieldé
Industrial Vintage
In a small workshop of Jean-Louis Domecq, a mechanic by trade, the idea was born to design "the perfect lamp" for his own workshop. After a few adjustments, the design was completed in April 1950. It perfectly met the requirements: a simple, robust lamp, versatile and resistant to harsh conditions. The ball joint with the two sliding contacts is one example, allowing the lamp to swivel in all directions without breaking the cord. Success came immediately after Jean-Louis industrialized production in 1951/52. In 1953, he founded a company to handle the marketing of this lamp. The founder's initials formed the basis of the name:
Jean-Louis Domecq = Ji-el-dé
The old Jieldé lamps have already had a long life. This is sometimes evident; some lamps are in better condition than others. A lamp is unique when it has been used but still retains its original color. This gives the lamp character and authenticity. Today, the lamps are still made in Lyon, France. These vintage lamps in their original versions are now a sought-after object for interior designers and those who appreciate industrial design in their interiors.
